In martial arts, you learn a set of movements and how to use those movements when sparring or fighting with other people. Martial arts will also teach you a set of values, such as discipline and self-control. The specifics that you learn depends on the type of martial art that you have chosen.

Martial arts are easy for children to learn. They can pick up martial arts movements by copying their instructor as they demonstrate the skill or by listening as their instructor explains how to perform the skill. Our instructors are trained on how to best explain martial arts to children.

There is no bad age to start martial arts. You can pick up most of the skills that are taught in martial arts at any age. We offer martial arts classes for children as young as 3. However, adults will have no problem learning martial arts from scratch. Even the elderly can learn.

At 3 years of age, children are old enough that they can begin to learn martial arts or, at least, taekwondo. At 3, children are still learning how to coordinate their limbs and move their body. Taekwondo is a good exercise to help them develop the physical skills they will need for their whole lives.

Yes, martial arts are particularly beneficial for children who are shy or who are having trouble speaking up for themselves or making friends. Martial arts can give children more confidence in themselves. The feeling of progress and the mastery of one’s body is beneficial for shy children and can help them step out of their shell.

Martial arts are a great sport for kids. Martial arts of all kinds help children grow confidence, learn to protect themselves, and develop a love for fitness that can help them stay healthy for their whole lives. We think that taekwondo, with opportunities for competition and emphasis on hard work and discipline, is especially useful for children.

You might think that since toddlers won’t be entering competitions any time soon, aren’t all martial arts good for them in terms of their benefits? Sure, a toddler can benefit from any martial art. However, taekwondo is great for toddlers because it focuses on movement in all four limbs and teaches values like confidence and hard work.

Both taekwondo and karate are good for kids. However, we’re a little biased and tend to prefer taekwondo. Taekwondo focuses on using the hands and feet; it offers more practical self-defense; it provides more competitive opportunities (though it depends on where you live and how far you’re willing to travel); and it also teaches kids great values.

We have seen children who are struggling to behave well improve when they participate in martial arts. There is no guarantee that martial arts will help a child who is hard to discipline or who is struggling to behave. However, there are many good reasons that it can, including giving children an outlet for energy and helping them see that self-discipline is valuable.
